Last Sunday over 4500 visitors and guests descended on Highnam Court for the charity’s annual Classic Car and Gardens spectacle. This was a record attendance for the 14^th show, now a one-day event, which raised a staggering £52,000 for sick & disabled children in Gloucestershire. 

Over 400 classic cars, including Gloucestershire Police vehicles, put on a worthy display set in the stunning gardens, amid 8,000 roses, trees and oriental planting in the grounds of Highnam Court.

The 2024 car show winner’s trophy was presented to John and Carole Lewnes for their 1949 Triumph Roadster.

Thanks to Roger Head OBE and headline sponsors, Malvern Tyres Group and APM Fire & Security, who helped us stage this one-day show. At peak times all roads leading into Highnam Court had visitors queuing, but the APM car parking team managed the queues swiftly and effectively.

Many cups of tea and slices of cake in the Orangery, a prize-rich raffle, games, stalls and retail opportunities delivered something for all the family, including soft play, children’s steam rides and sweet stalls. Acts on the traditional bandstand welcomed performances from Glos Disco, Georgia Wootton, Two Gals & A Guy and the Belmont School Choir who entertained crowds on the green. Thanks to Major Entertainment for supplying all the sound equipment.

The Pied Piper Appeal charity and campaign founder, Julie Kent MBE, also welcomed friends and supporters of Emily’s Gift in the House, as a thank-you for their donations and pledges to raise funds for a psychologist at the Children’s Cancer Centre (Emily Kent Unit) at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. 

Nick Broady, chair of the Appeal, said: “What a day! It far exceeded our expectations with a great family atmosphere. Many people stayed past 4 pm when the show drew to a close; a sign all were enjoying the day. The spectacle of over 400 classic cars on the lower lawn in front of the lake drew admiring crowds and we are thankful to all drivers for showcasing their vehicles.

“We couldn’t put this event on without the kindness and generosity of local businesses and sponsorship. Our red and blue army of volunteers ran the day and made everything happen. It was great to see huge crowds of families, children and dogs!

“We have already pledged some funds to the Children’s Centre at the new Forest of Dean Hospital in Cinderford. We continue with our funding towards the Belmont School inclusive cycle track, among many other bids and Wish holidays. We are back again next year on Sunday 8 June 2025.”
