In recent years it has been recognised that by stimulating a child's imagination it is possible to divert their attention away from illness and pain. The Pied Piper Appeal has funded some exciting arts enhancements initiatives. These have helped to create a hospital environment that is welcoming, reassuring, stimulating and personal.
The Pied Piper Appeal has funded art commissions and art projects carried out under a programme called Leading the Way. There were four phases to the programme of which two have been completed. In the Children's Centre and its immediate surrounds can be found:
- Artworks made from recycled materials embedded in the footpaths leading to the new hospital by David Watson.
- A Ceramic Wall Mosaic to welcome children to the entrance of the new Children's Centre by Marion Brandis.
- An interactive Bubble Tower and Lift Enhancements to lead children up to the first floor Children's Centre by Andy Hazell.
- Vinyl Floor Designs for the Children's Centre by Susan Kinley.
- Children's Bedside Display cases by Beatriz Matud.
Your donation could help fund this very special child-friendly environment.

"The new Gloucestershire Royal Hospital provided the Trust with a unique opportunity to create an excellent environment in which to deliver quality care." said Jane Willis, Arts Co-ordinator for the Trust. "It is becoming increasingly recognised that the arts have a key role to play in delivering an improved patient environment."
